South West Championships 2018
With the BMX season now in full swing, we are all looking forward to the 2018 South West Championships which mark the finale of the regional season.
This year’s event will be held at Decoy BMX club on Saturday 22nd September 2018. In addition to a full day of BMX action, there will be an end of season awards evening at the River Dart Country Park.
We see the introduction of the ‘Club Champions’ title which is a new feature for this year’s event. Riders wishing to battle for this title are encouraged to wear their club jersey, with their points from the day going towards the ‘Club Champions’ title and coveted trophy! The title will be calculated by taking the points of the top 7 performing riders from each club on the day.
All riders whose primary club is based within the South West automatically qualify for the South West Championships. Riders whose primary club is outside of the region must complete two rounds of the 2018 South West Regional Series to qualify.
Riders are able to ride in their UCI age group, regardless of which age category they have ridden during the season.
There will be no novice racing at the South West Championships.
The South West Championships are always spectacular, and this year’s event is going to be bigger and better than ever! For an event teaser please check out this awesome video by Decoy’s finest, Seamus Doherty!
Over the last couple of rounds the region has been trialing new race management software – Sqorz – alongside giving MyLaps transponders to the riders. This will help the race administration and reduce the number of volunteers needed to run a raceday, but also improve the information available to the riders and will hopefully improve the raceday experience for everyone involved.
The region has decided to implement the software and use transponders for the SW Champs. With it being the first occasion and the need to get all riders tallied up with transponders, the event will become preregistration only but the closing date for entries will change from 23:55 on Thursday 21st to 20:00 on Friday 21st September to give riders/parents extra time to decide on whether they will attend.
It will not be possible to register on the day.
More information will follow regarding transponders.
